KIQ Membership Terms and Conditions

1. Membership Eligibility

1.1 Membership is open to:

• Kenyans living in Queensland, Australia

• Persons of Kenyan descent

• Individuals who support the objectives and values of KIQ

1.2 All membership applications are subject to approval by the KIQ Management Committee.

1.3 KIQ reserves the right to accept or decline any application without obligation to provide reasons.

 

2. Membership Categories

2.1 KIQ may offer different categories of membership (e.g. Ordinary, Student, Family, Honorary, or other categories as determined by the Committee).

2.2 Rights, benefits, and obligations may vary by category and will be communicated clearly at the time of application.

 

3. Membership Fees

3.1 Membership fees, if applicable, are determined by the Management Committee and may be reviewed from time to time.

3.2 Fees are non-refundable unless required by law or explicitly stated otherwise.

3.3 Failure to pay membership fees within the prescribed period may result in suspension or termination of membership.

 

4. Member Rights and Benefits

4.1 Subject to the KIQ Constitution, eligible members may:

• Attend KIQ events and programs

• Participate in community initiatives

• Vote at General Meetings (where applicable)

• Stand for election to leadership positions (subject to eligibility rules)

4.2 Membership does not confer any financial entitlement, ownership interest, or guaranteed benefit.

 

5. Member Responsibilities

5.1 Members agree to:

• Uphold the KIQ Constitution, policies, and by-laws

• Act respectfully and responsibly within the community

• Promote unity, inclusion, and cultural respect

• Avoid conduct that brings KIQ into disrepute

5.2 Discrimination, harassment, abuse, or misuse of KIQ platforms or resources will not be tolerated.

 

6. Code of Conduct

6.1 Members must engage with fellow members, volunteers, leaders, and partners in a respectful and lawful manner.

6.2 KIQ reserves the right to investigate any alleged breach of conduct and take appropriate action.

 

7. Suspension and Termination of Membership

7.1 The Management Committee may suspend or terminate membership if a member:

• Breaches these Terms and Conditions

• Acts contrary to the objectives of KIQ

• Engages in misconduct or unlawful behaviour

7.2 The member will be given an opportunity to respond before a final decision is made, unless immediate action is required for safety or legal reasons.

7.3 Terminated members forfeit all membership rights and benefits.

8. Privacy and Data Protection

8.1 KIQ collects personal information solely for membership administration and community activities.

8.2 Personal data will be handled in accordance with applicable Australian privacy laws and will not be shared without consent unless required by law.

 

9. Welfare and Support Programs

9.1 Participation in KIQ welfare or support programs is subject to separate eligibility criteria and policies.

9.2 Membership does not guarantee access to financial assistance or welfare benefits.

 

10. Limitation of Liability

10.1 KIQ, its Committee members, volunteers, and partners are not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from participation in KIQ activities, except where required by law.

10.2 Members participate in events and programs at their own risk.

 

11. Amendments to Terms and Conditions

11.1 These Terms and Conditions may be amended by the Management Committee in accordance with the KIQ Constitution.

11.2 Members will be notified of material changes via official KIQ communication channels.

 

12. Governing Documents

12.1 These Terms and Conditions operate in conjunction with the KIQ Constitution.

12.2 In the event of any inconsistency, the KIQ Constitution shall prevail.

 

13. Governing Law

13.1 These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Queensland and the Commonwealth of Australia.

 

14. Acceptance

By submitting a membership application or renewing membership, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Membership Terms and Conditions.
