Kenyans in Queensland (KIQ) is a community-based organisation that brings together Kenyans living in Queensland, Australia. We are a vibrant and diverse community made up of individuals and families who have migrated from Kenya for education, employment, business, and family reunification.
KIQ exists to create a sense of belonging, provide support, and strengthen connections among Kenyans while positively contributing to Queensland’s multicultural society.
At the heart of KIQ are shared values that guide how we operate and serve our members: Unity – We believe in the strength of community and collective responsibility. Integrity , Transparency, accountability, and trust are central to our work. Inclusivity – Every member is valued regardless of background, age, or status. Support – We stand with one another in times of need. Cultural Pride – We celebrate and preserve our Kenyan identity.
Our Purpose
KIQ was established to support the social, cultural, and economic wellbeing of Kenyans living in Queensland.
Our purpose is to:
Foster unity and mutual support within the Kenyan community
Preserve and promote Kenyan culture and heritage
Provide welfare and support mechanisms during times of need
Create opportunities for networking, mentorship, and professional growth
Act as a central platform for information, engagement, and representation


What We Do
KIQ delivers value to its members through a range of initiatives, including:
Community welfare support, including emergency assistance and solidarity during times of hardship
Cultural celebrations and events that showcase Kenyan traditions, food, music, and art
Student engagement and leadership development through the KIQ Students Council
Social and networking forums that connect members across professions and generations
Community advocacy and representation within the broader Queensland multicultural landscape

Each team member brings unique skills, lived experience, and commitment to building meaningful programs that support, connect, and empower Kenyans across Queensland. Together, we work to strengthen cultural identity, foster inclusion, and create opportunities for individuals and families to thrive.

Antony Kamau
Provides overall leadership and strategic direction for KIQ, representing the organisation externally while ensuring strong governance, accountability, and alignment with the community’s vision and values.

Secretary
Pietta Bett
Responsible for records, meeting minutes, official correspondence, and ensuring smooth communication and compliance across the organisation.

Regional Coordinator
Luke Kibiwott
Acts as a link between KIQ and members across different regions in Queensland, supporting local engagement, coordination, and representation of regional voices.

Events Coordinator
Isaac Wamae
Works alongside the events team to conceptualise, organise, and execute KIQ events, ensuring strong participation, smooth execution, and positive community engagement.

Robert Mogaka
Works within the health and wellbeing team to promote preventative care, awareness programs, and holistic support for KIQ members.

Leads initiatives focused on physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, promoting awareness, access to support services, and healthy community practices.

Represents the interests and needs of Kenyan students, contributing to programs and initiatives that support education, wellbeing, and student integration in Queensland.
