Mental Health Awareness Sessions

Health & Wellness Initiatives

Health & Wellness Initiatives

Mental Health Awareness Sessions are wellbeing-focused initiatives by Kenyans in Queensland (KIQ), created to promote open conversations, awareness, and understanding around mental health within the community.

These sessions aim to reduce stigma, increase awareness, and encourage individuals to seek support when needed. By providing culturally sensitive and supportive spaces, KIQ helps community members better understand mental wellbeing, recognise challenges, and access appropriate support pathways.

Mental Health Awareness Sessions emphasise that mental health is an essential part of overall wellbeing and that seeking support is a sign of strength.

What to Expect

  • Open, respectful discussions about mental health and wellbeing

  • Awareness sessions on common mental health challenges

  • Information on support services and pathways in Queensland

  • Culturally informed conversations and shared experiences

  • Guest speakers, facilitators, or mental health professionals where appropriate

  • Safe, confidential, and supportive environments

Who It’s For

  • Kenyan community members of all ages

  • Individuals seeking mental health awareness and understanding

  • Families and caregivers supporting loved ones

  • Community leaders and volunteers interested in wellbeing advocacy

Why It Matters

Mental health challenges can affect anyone, yet stigma and lack of awareness often prevent people from seeking help. Mental Health Awareness Sessions help to:

  • Reduce stigma around mental health conversations

  • Increase awareness and early understanding of mental health concerns

  • Encourage help-seeking and support access

  • Strengthen community empathy and support networks

  • Promote emotional wellbeing and resilience

Program Format & Frequency

Mental Health Awareness Sessions may be held periodically throughout the year, either in-person or online, depending on community needs and facilitator availability. Topics and session formats may vary to reflect emerging issues and community priorities.
